Double Nickles

Posted on: April 14, 2013

Hi Friends!  Well, I’ve finished my first week of Curves Complete.  I really enjoyed the workout portion of my week, and the meal plan wasn’t too difficult to follow.  I’m not sure why, but the first few days weren’t too bad; by Thursday I was finding it more difficult to pass up on sweets and treats.  Still having buckets of Easter candy laying around didn’t help much, and I did have 5 mini Robin Eggs, but really, other than that I stuck to it.  Honestly, the most difficult thing I’ve found is finding time to eat!  On this plan I have 3 meals and 2 snacks.  The meals aren’t an issue, but fitting those snacks in can be kind of a pain.  I’ve never eaten on any kind of schedule, and it’s going to take some getting used to, but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it.

I’ve just completed Phase 1, and if you’re unfamiliar with their plan, this is the beginning step in the “process”.  It is one week long, and the diet consists of about 1200 calories.  I didn’t feel deprived or hungry one time.  I DID crave food that I know I didn’t need, but it was totally out of want not need.  Next week I moved on to Phase 2, which has 1500 calories, and I’ll be on that for the remainder of my time on the Complete program.  Woohoo!!  I’ve eaten 1500 calories at other times when I’ve tried this whole thing on my own, so I’m really not worried or concerned about this transition.

When I got on the scale 2 weeks ago I knew what to expect.  I knew that the number was going to be closer to 200 than 100.  I knew I had a long way to go.  But, I’m just now realizing that it’s taken me 11 years to put on over 50 lbs.  It boggles my mind to think that I may actually be able to drop 55 lbs over the next 6 months.  I have high hopes, but I also know that if it took me 11 years to gain that much then it’s probably okay if it takes me more than 6 months to lose it.  And, if I’m being real with you for a minute, I’d be happy if the scale said 160 again (which is what it says on my license!).  The real goal is my lowest adult weight, 135.  I’m not really sure if that’s possible now since that weight was 3 kids and 14 years ago.  But, at least it gives me something to shoot for.  For me, the real goal is the number on the tag, not the number on the scale.  I’m working toward that cute little sundress size.  I’m working toward skinny jeans and knee high boots.  I’m working toward form fitting sweaters.  I’ll probably have to wait until next season for all of these things, but I’m okay with that, too.

I’m interested to see what happens tomorrow at my first weigh-in.  I know what my home scale says, which is a little lower than last week, but I’m still wondering what that heavy duty medical scale is going to scream in my face.

Either way, I feel like my first week was a success.  I completely kicked caffeine.  I wasn’t a huge caffeine drinker, but I did have coffee or tea often.  I haven’t added sugar to anything.  I learned that I do like hummus.  I learned that if you don’t eat processed, greasy, heavy foods for 5 days, and on the 5th day you take a bite of pizza because it is SCREAMING your name you will feel disgusting.  I learned that if you give your kids fruit salad for dinner instead of french fries they will eat it, and they will like it.

I’m excited to see what comes next.  I’m excited to see what new things I learn.  I’m excited to continue on a path that I’ve been trying to follow for too long.  I’m worth this journey, and I’m excited to see who I meet at the end ❤
